Congratulations to Cassie and Brad on #brassie17! This wedding is extra special to me, as it involves many people who I'm lucky to know personally. It's always fun to get to do a wedding with friends. Cassie and Brad were married in the Ballroom at McMenamins Edgefield on a lovely spring April day in the Troutdale/Columbia River Gorge area, Oregon.
I can't believe it was only a year ago we were at Oaks Pioneer Church and the Elysian Ballroom celebrating Kathleen and David's wedding reception. A little rain didn't dampen the happy couple's spirits!
It's a bright fall November day in Portland, so I thought I would post something with a harvest vibe. Today's photo comes from David Barss, taken at Zenith Vineyard in 2012. Jeanne and Korash were married towards the end of the summer and I just love the interplay between light and shadow that makes for an atypical couples' photo.
Today's photo comes from Scott McNamara, taken at a wedding we planned for Lauren and Kurt at Multnomah Falls in 2012. With this type of scenery you really don't need any other decor!
Their ceremony was held on the patio surrounded by forest and the falls in the background; the reception was held inside the historic 1925 lodge Great Hall, with its soaring ceilings and crackling fireplace.
Happy anniversary to these lovely grooms! We were thrilled to be a part of their wedding a private riverfront Wilsonville estate last year. Family and friends contributed flowers from their farm, and the grooms provided the wine from their Sherwood winery. A farm-to-table dinner buffet was created by Valley Commissary Catering, and the guests danced the night away to Pura Vida Orquestra, honoring the Cuban heritage of Mauro's family. Many happy returns to the couple!
Erika and Lionel came up to Portland from sunny LA to have a subtly-Hello Kitty-themed wedding at the The Grotto with reception at The Nines Hotel. As soon as she said "Hello Kitty" you know I was already SO THERE for everything. I was also super excited to help them combine Erika's Mexican cultural and family traditions with Lionel's Filipino heritage. Some of these traditions were expressed in the traditional Filipino Catholic ceremony, complete with veil, cord, and coins ceremonies; and in having a cumbia band at the reception. All in all, it was an exciting, whirlwind day with lots of love, great food, and dancing; and we were so lucky to be there to help with it.
For today's EJP Events real wedding, we look back at Jeanne and Korash's celebration at Zenith Vineyards in Salem, Oregon. The couple found us by searching the web, all the way from NYC, although Korash's family is based in Salem; so a family-friendly celebration in the heart of Willamette Valley wine country fit the bill.
We loved helping Jeanne and Korash find their wedding location, their wedding photographer David Barss, choose flowers and menu options with Vibrant Table and Vibrant Flowers, and helped them select music from the Ramsey Embick Trio through Northwest Artist Management. Bright oranges met with the warm ivory tones of the venue and were used throughout the wedding, especially in the whimsical guest book table decorations that we helped assemble.
Today's EJP Events real wedding comes to you courtesy of Thalia and Conor, who we worked with last summer on their lovely wedding at the World Forestry Center. The WFC is such a great venue because there are so many choices for catering, and there are both outdoor and indoor wedding locations. For Thalia and Conor's wedding, they chose the tented outdoor plaza for the ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour inside Cheatham Hall. During this time, our team changed the tent setup from ceremony to reception. Finally, they and their almost 200 guests headed back to the tent for a seated buffet dinner with a dance area in the center.
While the guests went in for cocktails, the EJP Events team worked quickly to move ceremony decorations for reuse as reception centerpieces; remove tent dividers and bring out tables, move ceremony chairs around the dining tables; and set placesettings and favors.
From Emee: It's so very easy to blog about what's going on around town in the world of Portland weddings -- however, I'm making more of an effort to go back and blog our own weddings that we have coordinated and planned in the past, under the tagline { Real Weddings }. Some will be little snippets, some will be full features -- but my goal by the end of this year, is for our { Real Weddings } tag to be as helpful to Portland couples as possible, full of as many real venue and wedding ideas, and providing inspiration and information to all.
In honor of St. Patrick's day, today's little glimpse is one of our favorite weddings that we coordinated at Bridal Veil Lakes. This Columbia River Gorge wedding included a Celtic handfasting ceremony to reflect the groom's Irish heritage, AND Filipino traditions to reflect the bride's. TOO AWESOME.
In the Filipino tradition, the ceremony often involves many extended family members called sponsors, and three important rites are used:
An exchange of thirteen coins representing the promise of the couple to support and provide for one another and the family.
A veil, historically symbolizing being clothed in the love of Christ, but in non-denominational weddings, more often interpreted as a symbol of the couple's home and safe haven in each other.
A cord, wrapped around the couple's shoulders, to symbolize the strong bond between the married couple.
"Splendid Insights will be releasing the 2013 Global Wedding Study during first quarter 2014. In order to represent each segment as best as possible, we'd love it if you shared the survey with your clients, readers and friends! The diversity in responses helps us take a better look at the realities behind the global wedding market. The lovely folks at Think Splendid are doing their part to educate us about why we make the choices that we do for weddings. If you got married in 2013, won't you please take a moment to take their research survey? http://wedn.gs/wed13
