Congratulations to Cassie and Brad on #brassie17! This wedding is extra special to me, as it involves many people who I'm lucky to know personally. It's always fun to get to do a wedding with friends. Cassie and Brad were married in the Ballroom at McMenamins Edgefield on a lovely spring April day in the Troutdale/Columbia River Gorge area, Oregon.
We are heading back to our old digs at The Creative Loft (formerly known as The Bridal Loft) for a special open house for past clients! Come drop off your wedding gown for cleaning, and enjoy light snacks, champagne, while browsing "Spring Cleaning" info that we'll have on hand from all kinds of helpful home services such as housecleaners, handymen, personal chefs, home organizing, Realtors, and mortgage lending.
Get your gown cleaned and get items checked off your to-do list! No appointment necessary, just stop by Sunday, March 5, 2017 between noon and 4pm.

You would never walk into a store, grab a dress off the rack, pay for it and walk out, would you? No, you would try it on first! Especially if it was for an important occasion.
The same should apply for your wedding day! After witnessing a couple of "wardrobe malfunctions" this summer, bride and groom alike, I have to remind you all: Please try on your gown or tux before you take it home for the last time!
Yes, you may have had several fittings. But things can happen between the last fitting and the final pickup. You could have shed (or stacked) a few pounds. The seamstress could make a mistake. The tux supplier could have packed an incorrect vest size.
Open that bag BEFORE you leave the store, and try it on one last time. Or at least once you get it home. You do not want to open that bag on the day of the wedding to find out that something is missing or wrong. It's so much easier to make corrections or adjustments when you're not under the gun.

As the summer wanes, and our clients return from honeymoons, we receive a lot of inquiries about what to do with the wedding dress or sari.
EJP Events is an authorized dealer for the Wedding Gown Preservation Company, and we have had great results with them. You don't have to have had your wedding coordinated by us to take advantage of this service.
The gowns are expertly cleaned and wrinkles removed. Repairs can be done and additional items such as veil, train, and shoes can be cleaned and included in the box underneath a divider, in their own individual acid=free archival boxes.
Here is an example photo of a gown after the cleaning and archiving process in its archival storage box:
If you are interested in having your gown preserved and you can make it to our location in Portland, Oregon, email [email protected] and we'll take care of you!
Although the bulk of outdoor Oregon weddings have not yet begun, winter lovebirds are still heading out to beachy climates to get married. The question of how to pack your wedding gown comes up a lot!
Always check with your airline first for specific packing restrictions. Here are some tips from one of our gown specialists:
"You will not be able to use the standard length bridal gown bag as carry on luggage. It is too long, and too easily torn. Place your gown inside an FAA-approved garment bag instead. For instance, US Airways states that wedding gowns must be in garment bags no longer than 54" long. You are then expected to fold that bag in half to fit it into the overhead compartment. If you are lucky, the flight attendant might allow you to hang the garment bag in the first class closet (cross your fingers that your flight attendant has a soft spot for brides). But don't count on it.
It is not only your wedding gown that you should make plans for - your accessories are also very important. Pack your shoes, headpiece/veil/or tiara, and other accoutrements into a carry-on bag. With all the limitations these days, you may have to ask your partner to take your bag as their one carry-on item (remember, you also have the garment bag). Another option is to pack your gown and accessories together into one carry-on bag. I know it is terrible to think of cramming your beloved dress into a tiny bag, but you will need to have it professionally pressed when you arrive at your destination anyway. Be sure to keep your wedding jewelry in your purse."
If you have a wedding planner or coordinator, you could ask them to make arrangements to have your gown pressed or steamed (the seamstress will look at each item's fabric type, and decide the best way). In Portland, we do this through our partners at The Bridal Loft. If you are heading straight to your wedding location from the airport, your destination wedding planner or coordinator should offer the service of meeting you on your arrival day at the airport and getting the bridal gown, bridesmaids gowns, tuxedos or suits from you at that time and taking them to be pressed or steamed.
We have been fans of Lena Medoyeff's natural-silk gown shop on NW 23rd for just about ever. And to hear that they are having their firstever bridal sample sale? Woohoo! It's next week, June 12, 13, and 14. Definitely check it out! For more info, go to lenadress.com.
Did you catch any of the Oscars on Sunday night? Although I haven't seen many of the movies, I love the red carpet and all the lovely dresses. There are always many stunners that would translate wonderfully to a Portland wedding, many with familiar and favorite wedding couturiers such as Reem Acra, Vera Wang, and Elie Saab. Here are a few of my favorites:
Clockwise from top left: Lupita Nyong'o in Prada; Jessica Biel in Chanel; Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra; Cate Blanchett in Armani; Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli. All photos courtesy oscars.go.com.
Inspiration was readily found for mothers-of-the-bride and groom as well: my personal favorite was a crimson lace design from Reem Acra on Bette Midler - truly divine! Take a look at the rest of our picks below:

"Thank You For Your Patronage
It is because of your love and support that AMRAPALI is celebrating its 4th Anniversary. It only feels like yesterday when we opened our doors on 9th January, 2010. A dream came true and all of you helped nurture & support it. Thank You Once Again.
Today's tip is not just an attire tip, but it also touches on overall wedding design and colors.
I get a lot of clients every year who ask me if they can wear an ivory gown but have white tablecloths, and vice versa. Or if they can use ivory and white on the same surface, for example, white tablecloths and ivory plates. We receive so many inquiries like this that we decided to address it here on the blog at Portland Wedding Coordinator.
Some people seem to think that there is an etiquette or protocol issue at work here, but I have done some initial research at the Peggy Post and Martha Stewart sites, and to date have not yet found anything etiquette-related, except a reminder to guests not to wear white or ivory to a wedding.
So my feeling is that it boils down to your personal style and what you feel comfortable with.
2014 is roaring in and we are so excited to see what this year's couples are planning for their wedding designs. Here are some wedding trends we hear are going to be super-hot in Portland, from our own clients and also talking with colleagues around town:
